Chapter 1734: Chapter 1591: Wanxiang City After the Battle
The final trace of black flames completely marked the end of this war.
Everyone soared over the city; the outer city of Wanxiang City had already turned into ruins, with the main street piled high with corpses.
It wasn’t just Wanxiang City — the entire New Moon Land bore the scars of war, with trails of smoke and countless unknown corpses scattered across its expanse.
The fortress city of the Alliance Legion was cast into the black hole by Chu Mu and had been thoroughly erased from this world.
The invading Ning’s Army also failed in the end. Every last one of the intruders was killed on this soil, their glaring crimson blood flowing in vivid streams.
Everything seemed to have returned to calm, yet the desolate and gory scenes before their eyes told everyone just how brutal this war had been.
Few of the city-defending army survived, and even Shen Mo, the chief of the Three Great Palaces, remained with his life or death uncertain. Many who were once familiar faces had completely departed from this world, never to be seen again…
Chu Mu extinguished the flames on his body and hovered alone in the center of the city.
Looking down from high above, he saw many people in the middle city shedding tears — tears of survival, but also of mourning for those who sacrificed everything to protect them.
The war had ended. Perhaps it was even a victory.
However, seeing more people overwhelmed with grief, wailing and sobbing, he felt a twinge of doubt. Doubt about whether his choice to have New Moon Land fight to the bitter end had been a mistake.
He had protected the people and the city he vowed to defend, yet countless others had lost their loved ones and cherished soul pets because of this protection. Each battle’s end brought broken souls desperately searching amid the chaos of corpses for their family members — often finding them among piles of enemies, their faces unrecognizable, or, worse, not finding them at all.
Chu Mu had seen such scenes many, many times. This war might have been a victory for New Moon Land, but could such a victory bring back the dead? The joy of triumph was far from enough to wash away the sorrow of those who had lost their loved ones.
And so…
More and more people were crying.
“Brother, if I possess all of Grandfather World Monarch Tree’s strength, I will never let something like this happen again…” Ning Man’er walked to Chu Mu’s side, her eyes filled with tears.
This devastation had weighed too heavily on her. No matter how strong she was, she couldn’t stop her tears from falling like rain.
She had witnessed the death of the Holy Guard Leaders, had seen Shen Mo lead his fragile legion to fight for precious time with their lives, had watched the city-defending army and Holy Guards fall one by one. Every life had its meaning, so why did some have to pay the price of their lives due to the greed of those in power?
Chu Mu pulled her into his arms as she cried like a child.
Chu Mu’s views differed from Ning Man’er’s. War and slaughter pervaded the world, where even one’s closest kin could turn into enemies or foes…
That fleeting moment of doubt had made Chu Mu question himself: should this war ever have been fought at all?
But the truth was, if given the chance to choose again, Chu Mu would still choose to fight.
If they didn’t fight, if they were driven out or exiled, there would be more families destroyed, more loved ones separated. In such a cruel, competitive world filled with struggles for survival, compromise, cowardice, and appeasement were not options.
Just like in the natural world, many soul pets faced threats to their survival from the moment they were born. Often, only those strong, unyielding, and daring enough to fight could carve out a place to live.
Humans were no different from soul pets. They too faced the relentless cycle of elimination, death, survival, and growing stronger. When war erupted and was unavoidable, one had to face it with courage!
…
By the time the fourth day’s setting sun cast its last rays, the New Moon Legion stationed in East Madness Forest Fortress and the Heavenly Mountains began returning to New Moon Land’s various cities.
The army conducted a solemn cleanup, eliminating every potential threat within New Moon Land.
A month later, when New Moon Land confirmed no enemy forces would dare step into their cities again, its major cities began reconstruction efforts.
This war cost New Moon Land not only the strength of its armies but also countless Soul Pet Masters who had voluntarily joined the defenders, becoming part of the New Moon Legion.
After the chaos, less than forty percent of the population survived.
Following its independence, New Moon Land developed rapidly, bursting with talent, surrounded by strong individuals like a forest of towering trees.
Yet, this battle left New Moon Land desolate and solemn.
Even so, despite its desolation and quiet, New Moon Land had become a lone, fearsome territory within the entire Human Domain.
Though narrow and with a sparse population, it was filled with Soul Pet Masters who fought with their lives and exuded unshakable pride. After crushing the Alliance Legion of the Eight Great Powers, news spread, and New Moon Land appeared on the human map as a blood-stained iron sword, piercing the western borders of the Wupan Continent and the Struggle Land!
No power dared covet this land anymore. Rumors even circulated that the anguished cries of the Alliance Legion’s restless souls, slain during the invasion, could still be heard crying at midnight in some places in New Moon Land.
Their tragic wails also served as warnings to future invaders. The once-mighty Eight Great Powers Alliance had underestimated and coveted this land, only to become ghosts howling in regret.
As New Moon Land rose like a striking iron sword on the human map, the name of Double Evil Demon Chu Mu also spread across the Human Continent.
The Abnormal Series had always been a topic of mystery, speculation, and fascination. Now, Chu Mu, an immensely powerful Abnormal Human who rose during the war, had instantly become the center of attention.
Among the Human Leaders, of which there were only a few, Chu Mu had personally slain two during the war. Infamous, feared, and demonized, other leaders might have painted him as a heartless devil who killed without blinking, unworthy of being called human. Yet, Chu Mu had become the strongest and most enigmatic Abnormal Human in humanity’s several-hundred-year history.
His strength now far surpassed that of ordinary leaders.
So long as Chu Mu remained in New Moon Land, no one could dream of destroying this territory.
Moreover, astute leaders noticed a peculiar phenomenon following the Eight Great Powers Alliance’s defeat. Across every dominant faction, a significant number of people mysteriously vanished overnight, as though an unseen transformation had swept through their ranks. While no one could point out exactly what had changed, the unspoken shift was undeniable.
Some speculated that after enduring the baptism of war, New Moon Land had emerged as a model for independent territories. Some even believed it might evolve into the Ninth Great Power, with the tacit approval of the Eight Great Powers.
Others scoffed at such ideas, declaring the existence of the Two Great Royal Families made it impossible for New Moon Land to ascend to such heights — not unless it could grow strong enough to make even the royal clans tremble…
…
While the outside world roiled with chaos and shifting power dynamics, New Moon Land, the very origin of the turmoil, issued a proclamation within a month after the war’s end.
New Moon Land declared it would seal itself off for one year. No outsiders would be permitted to enter, and anyone who attempted to trespass without permission would be executed on sight.
This kill-on-sight order was the very reason New Moon Land was likened to a blood-soaked iron sword on the human map — no one dared approach.
…
With the presence of Earth attribute soul pets, the city’s reconstruction progressed rapidly.
By the third month after the war, the outer city of Wanxiang City had already regained its former tranquility.
In three months, some of the sadness began to fade as New Moon Land rebuilt itself.
Some soul pet masters bonded with new soul pets; others gradually moved past their grief and began to find acceptance in their loss.
A city could serve as a beacon of belief, a sanctuary of faith for all who lived there. As long as it stood, no hardship could not be endured.
Three months ago, the city suffocated under the weight of death and destruction.
Now, those places once piled with corpses had been planted with air-purifying Spirit Trees by Ning Man’er.
The Spirit Trees blossomed gloriously along the streets, each bearing the engraved name of someone who had died fighting for New Moon Land.
Ning Man’er once said that life itself is a cycle.
Those who died may find themselves in a new reincarnation. Yet, between death and rebirth, their wandering souls might become lost, boundless, and lonely. During this interim, they felt confused, isolated, and helpless.
Engraving the names of the deceased on the Spirit Trees and burying either their remains or personal keepsakes beneath the roots provided them a place of rest. There, they could peacefully await the start of their next life.
Ning Man’er’s actions gained widespread admiration. Other war-torn cities followed suit, planting Spirit Trees engraved with the names of their fallen.
As the trees blossomed in vibrant splendor, Ning Man’er’s smile became brighter and more frequent.
Many came to know this vibrant, ethereal beauty. Her smile effortlessly spread warmth to all living beings and to those with pure hearts. Slowly but surely, New Moon Land emerged from the shadow of war. Children played and laughed in the streets, couples strolled through quiet alleys, teachers trained young soul pet masters outside the city, and elders enjoyed relaxed conversations in sunlit courtyards.
For many, life didn’t have to be full of adventure or battle. A truly vibrant city also consisted of people living simple, peaceful lives.
…
“Brother, do you think that Ancient Jiao Person will be very powerful? Even more so than the Crusade Legion?” Ning Man’er tugged at Chu Mu’s sleeve and asked.
“Perhaps,” Chu Mu replied.
“Brother will protect this place, won’t you?” Ning Man’er asked earnestly.
“Yeah,” Chu Mu nodded.
At some point, this land had become tied to Chu Mu’s heart. He would give it his all and ensure that no one could ever invade this territory again, be they human or sea race! (To be continued.
