Chapter 1735: Chapter 1592: The Living Princess
“Brother, there’s a little boy standing there staring at you.” Ning Man’er pointed towards the city tower and wall, smiling as she spoke.
Chu Mu turned his head and saw a young boy dressed in the Holy Guard Reserve’s armor standing there. The boy was staring at him, seemingly wanting to approach but lacking the courage to do so.
Chu Mu found the boy somewhat familiar; he was the same boy he had once rescued from the Ice City Ruins and recommended to join the Holy Guard Reserves.
Looking at the boy’s hesitant demeanor, Chu Mu couldn’t help but recall his own youth, when he too had gazed at a strong one with the same timid expression.
The boy stood there, staring intently for some time, but ultimately, he couldn’t summon the courage to approach.
Chu Mu had always been as elusive as a dragon—rarely seen in one place for long—so his presence on the city wall that day was an uncommon sight. Many, like the young boy, wished to come forward and exchange a few words with him, but most ultimately didn’t dare to.
“Brother, you can’t keep wearing that stern face—you’ll scare everyone away,” Ning Man’er teased.
“…” Chu Mu thought to himself that he had improved compared to how he used to be.
“You should head back; I’m making a trip to the Nightmare Demon Sacred Realm,” Chu Mu said to Ning Man’er.
“I’m coming too,” Ning Man’er insisted.
Chu Mu pretended not to hear her. Flames ignited on his body, and with a gust of wind, the flames dispersed, and Chu Mu’s figure vanished.
Seeing Chu Mu flee, Ning Man’er stomped her feet in frustration.
It wasn’t hard for her to guess whom Chu Mu was going to see in the Nightmare Demon Sacred Realm.
…
Upon entering the Nightmare Demon Sacred Realm and crossing into the lands of the Nightmare Demon World Dynasty, Chu Mu flew straight towards the domain of the Magic Spirits.
To defend Wanxiang City, the Magic Spirits had paid a tremendous price. The soul energy from Immortal City and the Seal Tower was now being used as resources to support the recovery and sustenance of this unique race.
Arriving at the Magic Spirit Territory, Chu Mu spotted Bai Yu walking out.
Bai Yu glanced at Chu Mu, shook his head, and said, “She hasn’t woken up yet.”
Chu Mu nodded in response.
After unleashing Demon Ascension, Princess Jinrou had fallen into a prolonged coma, clearly drained heavily by the battle.
“I placed that jade pendant on her and reattached her soul to her body,” Bai Yu said.
Chu Mu was momentarily taken aback.
The jade pendant Bai Yu referred to had been obtained from a Family Head of the Hidden-Pupil Royal Family, who possessed the Naihe Flower. The pendant contained a trace of the power of resurrection, allowing Princess Jinrou a temporary return to life.
“If she wasn’t lying to me, when she awakens, it should be a true awakening,” Bai Yu said, patting Chu Mu on the shoulder. “I have to leave for a while. Take good care of her.”
“You’re not staying to see her wake up before you leave?” Chu Mu asked.
Bai Yu shook his head and said, “That woman with the Naihe Flower didn’t give me much time. It’s fine; there will be opportunities in the future. Even if I can’t fully bring her back to life, I know you’ll help finish what I couldn’t.”
“I will,” Chu Mu agreed with a firm nod.
“To be honest, at first, I was deceiving myself. I didn’t truly believe that the dead could be revived. But without embarking on this path, I wouldn’t have known what meaning there was in my existence in this world. If not for this… I might as well become a demon, losing all awareness and thoughts,” Bai Yu said.
“Don’t say that. Even sorrow and pain are better than feeling nothing at all,” Chu Mu replied, having experienced becoming a demon himself, understanding too well the agony it brought.
The pain wasn’t from the demon flames burning in one’s mind, driving you into madness day and night. The true agony was the loss of identity—not knowing who you were, or what purpose you had…
“You’ve got a point,” Bai Yu nodded, acknowledging Chu Mu’s statement.
“Uncle Bai Yu, it’s better to stay away from the Hidden-Pupil Royal Family. Their Family Head hovers just beneath the Undying Realm—they might resort to unforgivable methods to break through,” Chu Mu said with concern.
“Sure, the Naihe Flower has the ability to resurrect, but it can’t grant eternal life. Who’s to say that when you and I reach that point, faced with aging and death, we wouldn’t also commit horrific acts?” Bai Yu countered.
“I’ve never considered myself a good person,” Chu Mu said with a chuckle.
Bai Yu hesitated for a moment before laughing along with him.
Everyone pursued cultivation by any means necessary—Chu Mu and Bai Yu were no different. The only difference was some had limits, while others would go so far as to betray those closest to them.
“I’m off,” Bai Yu said.
“Yeah, take care,” Chu Mu replied.
Silver flames engulfed Bai Yu. They transformed into a streak of light, gliding across the black earth, vanishing in an instant.
Watching Bai Yu leave, Chu Mu was left with a mix of thoughts and emotions.
The Heavenly Boundary Monument chose Monument Weepers who had endured great hardships, possessing both perseverance and unwavering resolve. Chu Mu believed that, had Bai Yu crossed paths with the monument, he would have made an outstanding and formidable Monument Weeper.
However, Chu Mu had never sensed the monument’s resonance from Bai Yu.
…
Chu Mu stepped into the Magic Spirit Tribe.
The Heavenly Immortal Ice Curse Seal Demon Fox detected Chu Mu’s energy in advance and was already outside to greet him.
The snow-white Heavenly Immortal Ice Curse Seal Demon Fox appeared noble and beautiful yet irresistibly adorable, hopping along in front of Chu Mu to guide the way.
At an ice altar, Chu Mu saw Princess Jinrou.
She lay at the altar’s center, her figure graceful and alluring, capable of stealing a person’s breath with just one glance.
Her skin was exceptionally pale, a result of being preserved in ice powder for an extended period. Combined with the effects of the Eternal Spring Water, her body, devoid of life, showed no signs of decay.
In this state, Chu Mu was reminded of the days in the Sleeping World, many years ago.
Much time had passed; Chu Mu’s face no longer bore the countenance of youth, yet Princess Jinrou remained unchanged…
A green jade pendant hung from her graceful neck. The pendant emitted a faint, indistinct glow that carried an unusual energy—reminiscent of vibrant life or perhaps some other mysterious force, encasing Princess Jinrou in a soft halo.
Princess Jinrou’s eyes were closed…
Those eyes had remained shut for many years. Often, Ghost Jinrou would hover in front of her own lifeless body, gazing at it in silent thought.
Now, Princess Jinrou’s soul had returned to her body. Whether she could truly awaken still depended on time—her spirit remained fragile, having expended all its strength to save Wanxiang City.
In truth, Wanxiang City’s greatest savior wasn’t Chu Mu, who had rushed back in time, but rather Princess Jinrou herself. Drawing on the Seal Tower and the collective power of the Magic Spirit Tribe, she had held off a high-level immortal powerhouse and an entire army…
This heroic moment was etched in the memories of many. As a tribute, every newly constructed city tower now bore a delicate, small statue of a woman at its corner. Modeled after Princess Jinrou, she was depicted with long hair, a flowing dress, and an ethereal elegance—a figure at once soft, enchanting, and resolved.
Chu Mu approached the ice altar and extended his hand to touch her frost-covered arm.
Her arm was smooth and delicate, yet entirely devoid of warmth. As his fingers brushed against it, an icy sensation spread through his entire body.
Her black hair cascaded loosely around her, with a few strands resting on her chest.
Upon closer inspection, Chu Mu noticed that Princess Jinrou’s hair appeared slightly longer.
For the deceased, hair typically withered over time. Her hair’s enduring luster was thanks to the preservation effects of the Eternal Spring Water.
However, preservation was like an Ice Seal—growth was impossible. Yet now, Chu Mu discovered that her hair had indeed grown.
His memories of her features were vivid, etched deep into his mind. After so many years of seeing her frozen in time, even the slightest change—a single inch of hair growth—was immediately apparent to him.
Her growing hair meant she was truly alive again!
Though she still hadn’t woken up, this was because her soul was too weak, leaving her in a comatose state.
As her soul slowly recovered and her consciousness began to return, it would signify her true awakening.
Chu Mu felt overwhelming joy, unable to resist the urge to hold her close.
He vividly remembered her, standing on the ship’s deck, facing the ocean winds as they ruffled her hair. Her eyes, brighter than the stars, gazed at the rippling sea. Her petite figure, so delicate and melancholic, was a beauty that captivated.
In that moment, Chu Mu’s heart had stirred—for the first time as a youth, he had yearned to approach her, to speak with her, to learn everything about her.
And now, she was by his side. Even as a ghost, she had lingered near him, chatting with him, occasionally throwing tantrums—running off in a huff when upset, leaving him clueless as to where to find her…
Chu Mu had always thought her flawless, a princess embodying grace, wisdom, and an enigmatic air.
Yet it was in her ghostly form, during those interactions, that Chu Mu had seen a different side of her—childlike, willful, playful, and mischievous in ways that sometimes defied comprehension…
Perhaps this was her true self, unbound by any constraints.
She had even dared to express her innermost thoughts.
At first, Chu Mu had sensed a barrier between them. But over time, her actions dispelled his idealized image of her perfection, replacing it with a genuine affection for her authenticity—this raw honesty was what had truly captured his heart.
Somewhat ironically, before her slumber, Chu Mu had felt as though she was untouchable, unreachable—a presence to be revered from afar.
Yet when she became an ethereal ghost, unable to be touched or held, she had felt more tangibly present than ever—floating near him so lightly, laughing crisply, and frequently complaining about his awkwardness and lack of romantic sentiment…
