The name triggered an automatic physiological response in Devin's brain cognitively, the same familiar feeling he felt when he first saw Leena at the park. But it was all bits and pieces which disappeared in a flick of a second. Although one doesn't see or face each other in a business world, Names would keep their stance in the industry. But Enger seems to be an ordinary person because he has not heard of the name. Devin couldn't understand one question. How did he know Leena?
''Please come inside.'' Enger wide opened the door.
Leena squeezed Devin's arm when he stood like a statue without moving. ''Let's go in, Devin.''
''Yeah,'' Devin replied, knocking his thoughts aside.
Enger led them to the living room as he spoke. ''I live a minimalistic life. So, don't mind if my house is small and not to your liking.''
''No worries.'' Leena stated, looking over the surroundings. It was very simple and small to her liking. ''We don't mind.''
Just when Leena settled on the couch along with Devin, she studied the man in front of her carefully. But still, she couldn't understand how he knows about her. Why are you breaking your head, Leena? Let's find out.
''I want to know if you were the one that saved me five years back. Sorry if the question bothers you because I was not in a state to recognize anyone. I have been searching for my savior for a long time. Are you the one that saved me on that night?''
Enger glanced at Devin and Nick before his gaze shifted to Leena. ''Can we talk in private over that matter?''
Devin signaled Nick, and he immediately got up to leave, cursing Enger under his breath in the process. ''Dramatic bastard. What's so secret if he shares it in front of me?''
The moment Nick was out of sight, Devin spoke up. ''You can talk now.''
''I want to talk with Leena alone.'' Enger sternly declared. It clearly meant that Devin should also leave the place. Just when Enger thought he got the chance to talk with his beloved freely, this bastard was not leaving her hand at all as if she is his possession.
Not before Devin would lash out, Leena squeezed his hands to control his raging temper. Leena took the initiative and spoke up. "Mr. Lannox, he is my husband. We don't keep secrets between us. My husband will stay with me. You can freely share your thoughts.'' Leena spoke up in a calm voice. Devin's lips curled up into a smile at her crisp reply. Leena would always amaze him with her thoughts. She will never tolerate it when someone tries to look down on him.
''Was it you who saved my wife?'' Looking deep into Enger's eyes, Devin asked.
There was a pause before Enger responded an affirmative nod. ''Yes.'' He replied with clenched fists. Is he that happy that Leena is taking his side? Soon, Leena will change the image on you, bastard.
''H_ow do you know that I was at the cliff?'' Leena asked. She made sure no one saw her when she stepped out of the house on that day. If at all, her brother should be the one to look for her. But how did he get there? ''I still have some unanswered questions.''
''Are you doubting me?'' With curiosity, Enger asked.
''It's not that we doubt you, Mr. Lennox,'' Devin spoke up. ''My wife hasn't seen your face, and we cannot rely on your words alone.''
''Then go ahead and ask.'' Enger leaned his head back, crossing his arms.
''I don't remember seeing or talking with you. How do you know my name?'' Questioned Leena.
Enger smiled, then chuckled, and glanced at Leena. ''Did you forget the names Mr. Rain, Mighty Zeus, which you have given me, Miss Narcissist?''
Leena's eyes widened in surprise at the revelation. Those names! She has given it to her mysterious friend. How did he..No wait.. ''You are my mysterious friend!''
''Well, it took five long years to meet you officially,'' Enger said, his gaze softened as he looked at Leena.
While Leena and Enger were conversing, not a word heed into Devin's brain, he remembered Leena talked about a mysterious friend, but she didnot probe deep into the details. Devin also left the matter aside at that time. But now that he heard about Mr. Rain and Mighty Zeus's names, his head throbbed in pain when the memory hit his brain again. Even he remember one of the listed name. Did I meet Leena before? or do I imagine some other person's memories? He doesn't understand why he gets a shock when he tries to remember the missing pieces. Devin closed his eyes, putting an ear to Leena's conversation, letting the matter of his memories aside.
''We were supposed to meet each other in Seattle, you remember?'' Enger questioned.
Leena nodded her head and urged him to continue.
''When you texted me that you were alone on a cliff, I felt something was wrong. So, I traced your location and reached the destination. I felt my soul left the body, seeing you in such a state. There was only one thought in my mind, and that is to save you.''
Leena could see uncontrollable emotions surging from Enger. She can't believe her mysterious friend and the person who saved her are the same. Indeed, both decided to meet each other face to face, but many things happened in Leena's life simultaneously, and she forgot about him until Leena got a text from him when she was on the cliff while she waited for Ethan.
''My mobile crashed during the accident. After a year, I retrieved all the contacts, and I texted you many times, but I didnot get a response.'' Leena said.
''Sorry for that. Even I lost my mobile during an accident, and I got busy with the work.'' Enger started casually not to put a doubt on Leena.
''No worries.'' Leena awkwardly answered. So, I was the one desperate to meet him? But in person, Leena felt Enger's persona contradictory to what she envisioned. It's been five years already. Sure, people change, but Leena could not move freely with him as in the past.
''Thanks for saving me on that night. I will be forever grateful to you.'' Leena meant it. He has given her a second life, and she has is living a happy family now.
''I am glad you are living happily, Leena. But I must say, I missed our chattings. It was always fun to hear your crazy talks.'' When Enger saw Devin's dampened expression, his heart brimmed with happiness.
''I don't remember much of it.'' Leena awkwardly replied, pressing her lips into a thin smile. She could feel Devin seething in anger. A torture would be waiting today, that she was sure.
''By the way, when did you get married?''
''The question seems a little personal, Mr. Lennox,'' Devin cut him off.
''Sorry if that sounded too personal.'' Enger turned to Devin, extending his hand. ''I forgot to introduce myself, Enger Cassius Lennox.''
''Wang Devin.'' Devin shook his hand. ''Thanks for saving my wife's life. I will be forever grateful to you. If you need help, you can always reach out to me."
''Leena is alive, that's all I wanted..'' Enger stated.
Ignoring the man's rantings, Devin squeezed Leena's hand as he spoke. ''Let's go.''
''I will take my leave,.'' Leena rose from her seat, holding Devin's hand.
Not before Leena and Devin stepped out of the house, Enger called leena again. ''Wait, Leena.''
''Yes?'' Leena asked, turning around.
''Do you still use the old number?''
''Umm..Yes.'' She replied hesitantly. ''Why do you ask?''
''In case if I want to text you_''
''My wife is too busy to reply." Devin cut him off. ''If there is nothing around to talk, we will take our leave.'' Having said that, Devin pulled Leena out of the man:s sight.
....
Once Leena was out of his eye, Enger kicked a flower tub standing next to the door furiously. In a fit of fury, he strolled into the house. Just as he sat on the couch, massaging his temples, Nash entered from one of the rooms. ''I was assuming you will be happy seeing Leena.''
''Indeed, I am happy.'' Enger's anger disappeared when Leena's smiling face popped into his mind. ''But I hate his nerves, Nash.''
''We could have abducted her directly—big deal. No one will find our private home." To the outside world, Enger is an ordinary citizen. Very few people know his mysterious identity. Even if they kidnap Leena, no one can find the place until Enger discloses.
''I loved her since childhood, Nash. I want Leena's love. She will forever distance herself if I force on her. I have successfully entered into her life today. Now, I should work on breaking her trust in Devin."
''Let's celebrate for the first victory then.'', Nash suggested.
''You do that part. I am going to Mexico.''
''What's there in Mexico that you go alone always?'' Nash asked. Enger is his best friend, and he shares everything he asks except an incident that happened five years back and then about the Mexico secret.
''Every person will have at least one secret that could break others hearts,'' Enger said, and before strolling into the bedroom, he shot back, ''Make sure that my travel remains confidential.''
''Alright,'' Nash replied with a sigh.
