The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse

Chapter 854 - 854: Vampire Zombies (1)

Zombie Land is one of the seven Badlands on Earth. Back when Earth was buzzing with life, many flew from all over the world to attend Coachella, until it became their prison.

It was buzzing that very early evening when suddenly, the air turned thick, and humans started biting and tearing the flesh of their fellow humans.

Of course, with the advancements in technology back then, the ways out were controlled by powerful AI systems. However, when the apocalypse descended, my technological systems ceased to function.

Unfortunately for Coachella, they were part of it, so all entrances were sealed. By the time the authorities found out what had happened, the entire place was infested.

The people they managed to save were few in number. They couldn’t get everyone out, as opening the entrances unleashed zombies everywhere when they arrived.

Thus, the entire region was overrun, and as time passed, the zombies began to evolve, growing stronger and more attuned to their environment.

That was when the Savage Zombie Kingdom was formed.

Nobody knew who had the power to bring zombies under his command, but when they finally found out, it was too late.

He had already become a plague that couldn’t be controlled. Many say this so-called Zombie king, as the humans call him, was a famous musician back in the day. However, now, he had become nothing but a plague that must be eradicated.

He infested many cities, and his rule grew too powerful to the point where the humans had to push back to avoid incurring his wrath.

The slow, brain-dead zombies they saw on their TVs were, in reality, more than that. They could talk and reason. The only difference between them was their cannibalism and the fact that they were savages.

Well, not all of them.

Twenty-five years ago, Queenie discovered a group of zombies that were different. At first, she thought they were a human cult, considering how they dressed. However, she soon found out they were much more deadly than the savage zombies.

To her shock, they were not savages. They didn’t have dead bodies lying everywhere or enjoy a good human brain. She discovered their food is blood, and she was able to reason with them.

When she got to know them and had a sit-down with the Zombie Queen, they came to an agreement.

They only asked for a few Forbidden Zones, which, according to them, contained beasts they would use as their blood bank. In return, they promised to prevent the savage zombies from infesting more humans.

The humans were desperate back then, so she took their deal. Thankfully, they had no problem with these vampire zombies, and years have passed already.

Today, Klaus wants to venture into one of the most dangerous zones on Earth and take care of the zombies.

Several miles from the camp of the savage zombies, there is a military outpost where some of the finest warriors of Earth are stationed. Klaus and his team decided to stay there for a day.

The plan was to allow Asha to use her spy ants to gather information on the savage zombies. Though Klaus’s team contained the best warriors Earth had to offer, Queenie had warned him how dangerous the zombies were, and so he agreed to her proposal.

With that, Klaus decided to use the time to visit the vampire zombies first. Of course, Queenie and Jaguar would be escorting him.

“Asha, let me know the moment your spies find something,” Klaus said to Asha as he prepared to head out with Queenie and Jaguar. Asha nodded.

And so, they left and headed toward the camp of the vampire zombies.

They were not close to the location of the savage zombies, but in a lane where having direct contact with human settlements wouldn’t be possible for the Savage zombies.

They lived in a relatively good location for humans to establish military outposts if they wanted to block the Savage Zombies.

It was one of the reasons Queenie had found them in the first place.

It took an hour, but eventually, they came within viewing distance of where the zombies stayed. Klaus looked at their settlement and then turned to Queenie.

“Really?”

“Well, they have good taste,” Queenie smiled, watching Klaus’s expression.

“Before the apocalypse, a hotshot billionaire owned the land here, and he built these fancy buildings in hopes of starting something akin to a city.

It used to be called Estates, but you know how the rich think. He named it Musk City but died before he could enjoy the fruit of his labor.”

“Makes sense.” Klaus stood, watching the beautiful city in front of him, and he couldn’t believe zombies were living in it.

These were some of the finest buildings before the apocalypse. And while technology had advanced, and buildings started looking futuristic, this place didn’t pale in comparison at all.

It was essentially a thriving city, but with zombies inhabiting it. Every last building was deep red and black, and when Klaus focused his senses, he saw that the zombies were also dressed in red.

Not even a single one of them wore a color other than red and black.

“The paint job was their idea. I just provided the paints,” Queenie laughed and then said, “Shall we?”

“But of course. We came to meet them, after all.” They resumed their journey, and soon they neared the city gate, which, in this case, was a majestic red gate.

“Are you sure they are zombies?” Klaus asked Queenie when his eyes landed on ten figures standing in front of the gate.

They were clad in red leather armor, black boots, and their weapons sheathed on their backs. Klaus didn’t know much about them, but he could tell the ones on duty were swordsmen, considering their weapons were swords and sabers.

They wore half masks that covered their mouths up to their noses, exposing their red eyes and pale skin. Only their foreheads were showing, considering their entire bodies were covered.

Three females and seven males.

Nine were Transcendents, and the one who seemed to be their leader was an Ascendant.

‘Even a guard is on the level of an Ascendant. What kind of life are these zombies living?’ Klaus was shocked when he saw this.

“Stop right there.” The moment they entered the 400-meter radius from the gate, the guards noticed them. However, Klaus also noticed something.

‘Innate Domain…?’
