Chapter 1135: Is it in the soup 1134?

Wen Ran’s brows knitted lightly as she pondered for a moment before muttering to herself, “Li En likes Yiyi so much, and he took her away, so logically, he wouldn’t harm her, right?”

“Mhm, he shouldn’t harm Yiyi.”

Seeing Wen Ran’s concern, Bai Xiaoxiao echoed in agreement.

“It’s not certain, I’ve always felt that Li En seems too cold and gloomy, like Fu Jingyi was in the past. He was Fu Jingyi’s proud disciple and carries Fu Jingyi’s shadow. His temperament is even more extreme like Fu Jingyi’s. And Yiyi’s temper isn’t that great either—if she angers Li En, he might do something rash.”

Love can make a person, or it can destroy them.

Bai Xiaoxiao’s phone rang; the caller was Mo Xiuchen.

Her eyes flickered, and seeing Wen Ran looking down at Ziyi in her arms, she hesitated, didn’t tell her it was Mo Xiuchen, and stood to walk to the window before answering the call.

Wen Ran saw her go to the window to take the call, assuming it was Meng Ke calling her out again, and didn’t pay it much mind.

“Xiaoxiao, I have something to tell you. Is Ranran right next to you?”

“Mhm.” Bai Xiaoxiao, sensing something off in Mo Xiuchen’s voice, turned to glance at Wen Ran on the bed. Mo Xiuchen’s voice came through, sounding deep and urgent, “After she’s fed Ziyi and he’s full, let her go to sleep first. Don’t wait for Momo.”

“What’s wrong?” Bai Xiaoxiao’s heart skipped a beat.

Could Mo Xiuchen’s words mean something had happened to Momo? Could Cheng Jia and the rest have harmed Momo and found some issue?

“This child is not Momo; Momo might have been taken by Li En. Don’t tell Ranran, let her sleep first.”

“Oh.” Bai Xiaoxiao responded blankly.

“Who was that calling you? Why are you spacing out after hanging up?” Wen Ran handed over the now-sleeping Ziyi to Bai Xiaoxiao and asked with concern.

Bai Xiaoxiao put on a forced smile, “An annoying man.” She took Ziyi and placed him back into the baby crib.

Outside, there came a knock on the door; Qing Feng came in carrying a thermos, “This is soup sent by Young Master Mo, he said Miss Wen should have some first. He’ll bring the little missy back after her checkup is done.”

When Qing Feng said this, he gave Bai Xiaoxiao a meaningful glance, signaling her to take the thermos.

Bai Xiaoxiao blinked blankly, then understanding Mo Xiuchen’s intention, her face broke into a radiant smile as she drew out the words, “Alright, I got it.”

After closing the door, she carried the thermos over to the hospital bed, opened it, and served a bowl of soup for Wen Ran, “Ranran, for you.”

“Let’s go find Momo.”

Seeing her daughter’s eagerness, Bai Xiaoxiao handed her the bowl forcefully, “No, you have to drink the soup first.”

“After the soup, I’ll go find Momo. You stay here with Ziyi.” Wen Ran took the soup and bargained with Bai Xiaoxiao.

“Okay.” Bai Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow, readily agreeing.

Wen Ran smiled, tilted her head back, and finished the bowl of soup in one go, “Okay, don’t leave. I’ll bring Momo back.”

“Wait, you’ve only had one bowl; have another.”

Bai Xiaoxiao clung to Wen Ran like a petulant child, took the bowl, and put it on the table. Wen Ran frowned, “Xiaoxiao, I’ll drink more when I come back.”

“No, no, if Mo Xiuchen comes back and sees you haven’t finished, he’ll blame me for not taking good care of you.” Bai Xiaoxiao pouted unhappily.

Wen Ran leaned back against the headboard, “Hurry up and serve it.”

Bai Xiaoxiao chuckled, “Don’t rush, I’ll serve it for you.”

She slowly opened the lid and even more slowly ladled out the soup. There were only two bowls worth of soup to begin with, and one bowl had already been served. Now, as she ladled out the second bowl, each spoonful seemed to diminish the amount left.

Wen Ran grew anxious, “Xiaoxiao, can’t you just pour it into the bowl?”

“Almost done, almost done, no need to rush.” Bai Xiaoxiao kept stalling and, by the time she finally finished serving, Wen Ran was rubbing her forehead and frowning, “I feel dizzy, and so sleepy.”

“If you’re sleepy again, then go to sleep. You can drink it after you wake up.”

Bai Xiaoxiao was surprised to see Wen Ran like this and gently placed the bowl back on the table.

“Xiaoxiao, is there something added to this soup?” Wen Ran’s eyes swept over the soup on the table with suspicion in her gaze toward Bai Xiaoxiao.

“Ranran, no, it’s just soup with some salt.” Bai Xiaoxiao shook her head with a smile: “You must be too exhausted. Go to sleep; once you wake up, Mo Xiuchen and Momo will be back.”

Doubt flickered in Wen Ran’s eyes. She wanted to say more, but couldn’t keep her heavy eyelids open any longer and fell into a dark world…

As Wen Ran drifted into sleep, Bai Xiaoxiao lowered the head of the bed and covered her with a blanket, then quickly walked to the door. She opened it, intending to ask Qing Feng for details, only to see that Mo Xiuchen and Wen Jin had already returned.

“Is Ranran asleep?”

Before she could speak, Mo Xiuchen asked first.

“What’s going on? The child we just saved, if it isn’t Momo then who? Mo Xiuchen, how long will you let Ranran sleep? If she wakes up and can’t see Momo, she’ll still worry.”

Bai Xiaoxiao fired off several questions in a row.

Mo Xiuchen’s expression, cold as frost, showed a glimmer of pain, while Wen Jin spoke softly: “The police are tracking down Li En. Letting Ranran sleep can’t be a long-term solution, but telling her now might be too much for her to bear. We’ll just have to take it one step at a time.”

Originally, they had thought Cheng Jia kidnapped Momo to blackmail Wen Ran, but didn’t expect that while Cheng Jia intended to use Li En for her own ends, Li En had actually played her instead, switching the babies before she even had a chance to see Momo.

The child Cheng Jia saw wasn’t Momo but a newborn just like Momo, and though she had seen Momo on Bai Xiaoxiao’s phone, there was a difference between photos and the real thing. Besides, telling newborns apart is not easy.

The child in question was as thin and small as Momo. At first glance, there genuinely was no telling them apart.

Previously, when the child was brought to the hospital, Wen Ran hadn’t gotten a clear look at her face before the head doctor took her away. Wen Ran and Wen Jin had gone after Mo Xiuchen, and Gu Yan, having gone upstairs, answered a phone call.

It wasn’t until he finished the call and saw Momo that he realized she wasn’t his granddaughter.

Mo Xiuchen entered the ward and approached the bedside. Looking at Wen Ran in slumber, a hint of tenderness appeared in his eyes, “Ranran, once you wake up, Momo will be back.”

“How long will Ranran sleep before she wakes up?”

Bai Xiaoxiao asked Mo Xiuchen as she returned to the bedside, glancing at the soup on the table.

“Two days and two nights.”

Mo Xiuchen’s narrow eyes swept over the remaining bowl of soup as he spoke gravely, “We must find Li En within two days.”

His lips pressed into a thin line, and his gaze tenderly rested on Wen Ran for a moment before he spoke to Bai Xiaoxiao again, “Ah Jin and I need to make another trip to the police station. You stay here and take care of Ranran for me.”

“No problem, go ahead. Leave Ranran and Ziyi to me.”

“Mhm, if Ziyi wakes up, feed him formula milk first.” Mo Xiuchen finished speaking, turned around, and strode out of the ward.
